Ahead of new Season Launch Weekend, I decided to sit down with some of the Buyers from McElhinneys to find out a little bit about what it's like to be a Buyer, and what key trends we should look out for in the store for Spring Summer 2018.

Tell us a little about yourself Iris...
My name is Iris McLaughlin and I have been working in McElhinneys for 16 years. I started here on the floor in the Knitwear area of our Womens Department. I have been a buyer for McElhinneys for 13 years, and it's no exaggeration that you learn something new every season!
What is it like to be a Buyer for McElhinneys?
It's fantastic, really no two days are the same, so you are never bored! You meet so many amazing people, see some fantastic products, and it's great to see the product before anyone else. I do get nervous at the start of the season, as we have the responsibility of choosing the products, so we try to envision what our customers would like, so I'm always hoping they like our choices!
What is your favourite Footwear Trend for Spring Summer 2018, and why?
Trainers! Personally I love flats, and I love comfort so it's a big win for me! It is a huge trend this season, and runs into Autumn-Winter also - all the high end guys, like Gucci, Prada & Givenchy, are showing this trend.
A close second would be the Block Heel. Again, I really like this trend as it's comfortable to wear, and you can remain steady on your feet whilst having a bit of height and elegance. Again, the likes of Prada, Gucci & Chanel are showing these trends this season too.
