With 2022 officially dubbed the year of the rescheduled wedding, we can expect bridal styles to be more expressive and unique than ever in the coming months.
After some delays to nuptials taking place over the past two years, you can bet brides-to-be will be keen on making a statement on their big day.
With that in mind, we have put together a list of some Bridal Trends to expect in the year to come from the 'second dress' to bridal hats.
In 2021 we saw many famous faces tie the knot and with that, new trends began to emerge in the bridal world with the likes of Ariana Grande leading the way with her Audrey Hepburn-inspired column gown and bubble veil.
The celebrity influence on bridal trends cannot be underestimated, and with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lady Kitty Spencer opting for dresses with higher necklines and long sleeves in 2021, it seems likely that we will see more bridal designers taking inspiration from those key trends in their newer collections.
This Pronovias dress brings the long sleeve style to life, with its flattering and elegant mermaid silhouette and bateau neckline making it the ideal look for a winter wedding.
The ‘second dress’ is something that has become increasingly popular with the modern bride and it seems designers are starting to take note, with paired-back styles and dancefloor-friendly gowns becoming more widely available across major brands.
This glittering mini-dress from Vera Wang is the perfect after-party attire, with its shape making it ideal for dancing the night away in, while also looking stylish and maintaining a solid bridal theme through the dramatic veil-style skirt and high neckline.
Another trend likely to carry on into the 2022 season is a classic dress shape or silhouette with a twist – with brides utilising accessories to modernise classic styles - with the likes of birdcage veils, bridal gloves and bridal hats becoming popular.
This Vera Wang gown perfectly sums up the trend - with the v-neck tulle dress accessorised with a large bow and long white gloves to add an extra element of drama to the bridal look.
Following on from social media-led trends elsewhere in fashion, we’re seeing a greater emphasis being put on individuality and personal expression when it comes to style, and that extends to bridalwear.
Bridal Fashion Week at the end of last year suggested 2022 would bring many show-stopping and unique styles to wedding venues across the world, with a greater interest in sustainable designs and re-wearable styles emerging with new brides.
This Pronovias number is a great example of a re-wearable style, with its off-the-shoulder neckline and flowing skirt, it would look fabulous in another colour which makes it ideal to rework for another special occasion for a bride looking to be more sustainable with her dress choice.
Of course, as a bride-to-be, your own tastes and personal style are more important than anything, and while trends can give us an indication of what we can expect from bridal designers in the months to come, on your big day, all that matters is that you feel comfortable and confident in whatever style you choose.
At McElhinneys we stock a wide range of bridal options from a variety of designers including Vera Wang, Justin Alexander, Pronovias and much more. Our bridal team would be delighted to assist you in finding your dream dress to make your wedding day as special as possible.
