Calling you lucky 2019/2020 brides – are you looking for some insight into what trends we are expecting in the McElhinneys Bridal Rooms for the next two years?
Well, look no further as I sat down with our expert Bridal Buyer, Richie, to find out what we can expect for the next 2 years, and if there are any fun or dramatic designs you could keep an eye out for, for your big day.
Here are four major bridal trends to watch in 2019 and 2020:
The Meghan Markle Effect
It’s hard to talk trends without mentioning the biggest wedding of 2018, which was of course the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meghan opted for a plain and simple fitted dress, which we will see more of now during the next few years. We also must mention the tiara, which is the ultimate princess accessory, and becoming ever-more popular.
Non-Traditional Styles
The most prominent change Richie has seen is that Brides are becoming more adventurous and much less traditional. This is coming through in the new colours being introduced to the Bridal ‘palette’ including, champagne, gold, blush, blue, lavender and even metallic! Not only will colours be incorporated into dresses (think subtle/pastel colouring and coloured lining), we will also see colours being introduced in belts, flowers and other embellishments. These styles can already been seen in our Bridal Rooms and will become more widely available soon.
The Second Look
Another big trend, that we can see already in celebrity weddings, is having two ‘looks’ for the big day. Usually this involves one outfit for the ceremony, and a change in outfit for the evening. This can be anything from a full outfit change to a subtle accessory. Dress customisation is allowing this trend to take off full speed, with Brides-to-be opting for jackets or capes, removable lace, detachable lining (sometimes with a hint of colour for a dramatic look) and removable tulle skirts. We have lots of great options in the Bridal Rooms that would allow you to create a unique 'second look', and a removable tulle skirt is coming soon, so watch this space!
Capes
A trend you may already be familiar with, this trend was influenced by Vera Wang and will be sticking around for another few seasons. With so many great options, everything from cropped to long with a trail, and plain to fully embellished, we find brides are opting to replace the traditional veil with a contemporary cape. This also ties in with the ‘Second Look’ Trend, as removing the cape can give a totally new look. These beautiful styles are already available in our Bridal Rooms!
